New Trends in Internet Radio

When I reflect back on where Internet Radio started and is going, I am amazed about how much has been done in such a short period of time.

Vegas All Net Radio, http://www.vegasallnetradio.com, started in Las Vegas approximately 15 years ago (give or take a year or three).

How long has the Internet itself been around? Forty years, maybe!  And yet Internet radio is probably the fastest growing media outlet that there is coupled with the video component that is YouTube, Periscope, Facebook and I am sure there are many others that exist that I am not aware of.

Podcasts have been added to the vernacular of our vocabulary.  Convenience of listening to your favorite radio shows on the Internet is now a new way to listen.  Listening to LIVE radio may not be as critical as it once was because of this “podcast” feature.

VALUE has been added to Internet radio for these reasons and many others, which you can check out one of my earliest 3-part posts here on my blog about the BENEFITS OF INTERNET RADIO.

How do we know more people are listening?  An article written in April of 2011, titled, “INTERNET RADIO GARNERS HIGHER AD RESPONSE, RECALL RATES” lays out some really good information.  Here is an excerpt:

“Response rates increase 200% when advertisers add Internet radio — defined as both online-only stations and streams of broadcast stations — to online campaigns, according to research conducted by Parks Associates for audio ad network TargetSpot.

According to the new “Internet Radio Advertising Impact Study,” “users who spend the minimal amount of time listening to Internet radio had higher ad response rates than heavy Internet-only users.”

Ad responses as defined by the report include purchasing a product online or at a retail location, searching for product information, becoming a “fan” on Facebook, or calling the advertisers.

The research also reported 350% higher ad response rates when advertisers add Internet radio to broadcast radio campaigns.”

Here is the link to the full article for further reading:  http://www.mediapost.com/publications/article/148475/internet-radio-garners-higher-ad-response-recall.html

What does this mean?  Are advertisers responding?  Here is a link to an article that reflects increased trends in the ways advertisers are now spending the dollars.  http://rss.securenetsystems.net/index.cfm?page=Growth_Charts

The MOST important chart to review is the 4th graph showing that advertising dollars on Internet Radio will SURPASS that of television advertising dollars being spent by 2017! That is right around the corner.

So what better way to get more for your money?  Take advantage of the growing trend of Internet Radio that is virtually a never ending ceiling for exposure.

We would love the opportunity to meet with you and brainstorm how hosting your own radio show or becoming an advertiser can help build your brand and position you to be “the trusted authority in the industry you represent”.

THE FINAL FRONTIER OF FREE SPEECH

I’m back.  It’s been way too long and I have to start being more consistent with my writings.

Usually I have to be inspired by something to write about.  There have been a lot of inspirations lately but then they are fleeting before I know it and I never write about it.

But today I am back:  A lot has gone on but I will focus on the most important one.  May 1st, 2015, I became and Internet Radio Station owner.  Myself and my two radio partners from my show, Vegas Unwrapped, joined forces and purchased VEGAS ALL NET RADIO.

One of the most amazing things is that we purchased the station from a rather big radio company that owns stations all over the South Western US.  It has always been a dream of mine.  When Vegas Unwrapped started nearly 7 years ago, I told Ricky Cash that there has to be end to justify the means when it comes to hosting our own show.  I wanted to be in control of every facet of our business and not rely on the procedures and rules of the station we aired on.

Then we met a guy by the name of John P.G. Stiles (JPeg) over a year ago when we Ricky & I were guests on another radio show.  John handled the video taping of the show we guested on.  We asked him to film a Vegas Unwrapped episode and see what that did for our show.  You can check out all the videos at www.youtbe.com/unwrapped2010 if you want a peak behind the wizard’s curtain.  You can also see the videos of many of our different shows by going to https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCniowhQoXCe3OwWPcFDBGjw/featured?view_as=subscriber

John saw our vision about owning our own station and our desire to give back to the communities that our listeners are in.

Everything came together on May 1st.  There were 23 shows on the roster at that time and I am please to report that as of this writing we have 51 shows on the air.  Simply click on the station logo above and it will take you to our station website and then click on the “Programs” tab to see the lineup.

We offer a little bit of everything, Sports, Entertainment, Education, Veteran Programming, Health, Life Coaching, Holistic Modalities, Music and so much more.

We will be adding LIVE Streaming within a couple of months and eventually Internet Television.

I am proud of what we have accomplished but we have a long way to go.  If you ever thought of hosting your own radio show, we can train you to do that.  If you would like to advertise on our station I have programs that average around $5/spot.  That is a price that is very hard to find elsewhere.  BY 2017 research is trending that advertising dollars on Internet radio will surpass the revenues of television advertising dollars.  http://rss.securenetsystems.net/index.cfm?page=Growth_Charts

Internet radio is here to stay and will continue to grown to levels that I don’t think others have even thought about.

Don’t be left behind standing on the platform as the train passes you by.

That's me!

Until next time……

ARE THEY REALLY ABOVE THE LAW?

Okay, here we go again. Whether it is a professional athlete or entertainer, we seem to be seeing a rise in incidents of them breaking the law like nothing will happen to them.

The latest offender is Cleveland Browns Wide Receiver, Josh Gordon. For the second time in just a few short months he had a run-in with the law. He was caught speeding earlier this year and there was marijuana found in the car. Now he is busted, allegedly for DWI while caught speeding 15 MPH over a posted speed limit. (NOTE: He is also facing the possibility of a 12 month suspension from the NFL for violations against the substance abuse policy.)

Here in Las Vegas, Rapper Flavor Flav ran “afoul” with the law regarding 100 pounds of illegal fireworks he was set to use on July 4th. For 8 years now, he has done this in his neighborhood against the regulations of his HOA. About an hour before he was about to set off the fireworks, police confiscated the illegal fireworks and issued him 2 citations. I realize this is not on the same personal scale that the Josh Gordon situation is, however, it is the same from the stand point when an individual “should know better” and CHOOSES to break the law.

I could make a list a miles long of all the offenders in recent years like Lindsay Lohan, Justin Beiber, Lawrence Taylor, Ray Rice, Ray Lewis, Chris Benoit, Danny Bonaduce, Mel Gibson, Dennis Rodman, Jim Leyritz, Dwight Gooden, Plaxico Burress and many many more.

The common thread is that they believed that they would not or could not be caught. Why do they think that? Is it their ego reminding them who they think they are? That an autograph or game tickets will get them out of trouble? What kind of role model are they? What kind of precedence are they setting? Do they not realize who and what they actually represent and the companies they work?

It is too bad that these situations seem to raise more questions then they provide answers. I am troubled by what seems to be a never ending increase of stories like these. Maybe they become magnified simply because we don’t hear the stories about the average person on TMZ?

Maybe it will take a tragedy like Heath Ledger or Paul Walker for our athletes and entertainers to realize they are not invincible.

But then again, maybe not.

Until next time…..

“THE VERDICT”…WHAT SAY YOU?

There are times I feel I get caught between a rock and a hard place.

Over 4 years ago when Ricky Cash & I launched our Internet radio show, Vegas Unwrapped, we wanted to provide the best “info-tainment” on the radio “unwrapping” how much more Las Vegas has to offer outside of the casinos.

We felt in order to do that, we pledged to stay away form to topics: religion & politics. Once you get labeled something in those areas, it can be difficult to shed those labels and move on.

Although the George Zimmerman verdict is not a political “issue”, it certainly does have “political” & social issues connected regardless of which side of the verdict one may stand on.

After watching much of the news on tv and reading the posts on most of Social Media, I have come to this conclusion. If you agree with the verdict you are a racist. If you don’t agree with the verdict, the Justice System has thrown our country’s clock back 100 years because of THE senseless loss of a 17 year old, not self-defense.

Let’s not lose sight of how the justice system is supposed to work: criminal act, prosecution, defense, evidence, judge and a jury of peers. The jury’s job is to decide the outcome of a trial, based on “a shadow of a doubt on the evidence presented, NOT PUBLIC OPINION OR SOCIAL PRESSURES”, of one’s guilt of presented charges, otherwise they MUST vote not guilty. Having sat on a jury in the past, that seems to be what the 6 female jury members did in this case. The result may have failed Trayvon Martin, but did the system itself fail? If you believe so, you only have the Prosecution to blame, not the justice system or race issues.

Here’s the rock & hard place. Since I am in the “media”, I choose to filter my opinions and thoughts so as not to jeopardize the good standing of Vegas Unwrapped and my reputation. I don’t want to risk putting something out there and being labeled as something that I am not. There are just too many time bombs that could go off.

Some will tell me that I have the right to my opinion and should voice it. Opinions are voiced often, but rarely is it ever left as simply accepting someone’s opinion and leaving it at that.

There are 3 sides to this story. Trayvon’s, Zimmerman’s and probably somewhere in between lies the REAL truth. Unfortunately, we will never accurately know one side of this which will always be left untold.

Although George Zimmerman did not get traditional jail time, he will be in jail in the court of public opinion for the rest of his life. At 29 years old, he may never get work again, have a significant other, be able to buy a car, etc. Plus he will have to live the rest of his life looking over his shoulder. That doesn’t sound like a “free” man to me.

I know this much, anyone who feels that they are in danger and have to put themselves in a “self-defense” mode, may think twice. That hesitation could cost them their lives. I would like to believe that if my life or my family’s life were in danger, I would do anything I had to in order to protect them, REGARDLESS of the race or creed or color of the person who is trying to do harm unto us. Do I get special treatment as a “white Jew”?

Have we re-defined what we are able to do in “self-defense”? So many questions, so many opinions to come.

Until next time….
